Hamilton, NJ - NARAL Pro-Choice New Jersey, the state’s leading advocate for personal privacy and a woman’s right to choose, thanked Senators Corzine and Lautenberg for opposing John Roberts’ nomination to serve as Chief Justice as the Supreme Court. “New Jersey residents are proud that both Senators Corzine and Lautenberg stood up for our fundamental freedoms and opposed John Roberts' nomination to serve as Chief Justice,” said NARAL Pro-Choice New Jersey Executive Director Laurie Lowenstein. “John Roberts did nothing during his hearings to alleviate pro-choice New Jerseyans’ fears that he poses a threat to a woman's right to choose.”

“The Senators’ vote against Roberts and in favor of freedoms we value reinforces the need for President Bush to nominate a consensus candidate to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, who is the swing vote on the Court protecting women’s reproductive freedom.”
