Things You Should Know

Modified: 07/27/2005

Fascinating factoids!

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

• You can get pregnant the first time you have intercourse.

• You can get pregnant before you have had your first period.

• Douching after intercourse will not prevent pregnancy – even if you do it with Coca-Cola!

• Some antibiotics can make birth control pills ineffective. If you are taking antibiotics and you are also taking birth control pills, use an additional contraceptive.

• Urinating before and after intercourse will not prevent pregnancy – but it can reduce the chances of getting a sexually transmitted infection.

TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR SELF

• If you think you might be pregnant, consult your doctor or a Family Planning clinic right away for help and counseling.

• Talk to someone you trust. You do not have to handle an unintended pregnancy alone.

• Whatever choice you make, really make it. Making your choice sooner is better than making it later.

• If you are sexually active, have a gynecological exam every year.

• Places that call themselves “Friendship Pregnancy Centers” and “Crisis Pregnancy Centers” are not medical facilities and their counseling is biased against all but one choice.

• Pro-Choice does not mean pro-abortion. You have a choice, you deserve make the one that helps you feel the most comfortable.
